Entry Requirements

The following general prerequisites and specifications apply to all Self-Sponsored Type Rating Training at OAA:

  • For the issuance of the first type rating hold a valid Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (ME-IR) when commencing the training.
  • Hold at least a valid Commercial Pilot Licence (A), (CPL) (A) and Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (IR) issued in accordance with the applicable ICAO/JAR-FCL standards.
  • Hold a certificate of satisfactory completion of a Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) course, and theoretical knowledge equal to the requirements for the issuance of an ATPL (A).
  • Have at least 70 hours as Pilot-In-Command of airplanes.
  • Have an acceptable level of knowledge of the English language.

We expect our applicants to have recent flight experience and solid IR/ME skills. If a candidate needs to refresh their skills, OAA offers great programs to get them up to speed. MCC courses in jet simulators, Jet Orientation Courses, airline selection preparation courses and Pilot Assessments are offered to ensure that candidates have the understanding and skills to successfully move into an airline environment.

The training requires an even number of pilots/students, i.e. complete crews. Two co-pilots or captains are accepted as a crew. If you do not have a partner we will be happy to team you up with another student.

For Type Rating Training outside of OAA's TRTO approval (JAR-FCL), each individual is responsible for approval as well as an inspector from the appropriate regulatory authority.
