OAA offers a variety of self-sponsored pilot training courses on many aircraft types:
The Abbreviated Type Rating course applies to pilots with experience on a JAR-FAR 25 certified multi-pilot, multi-turbine engine airplane with a minimum take off weight of at least 10 tons and/or certified for more than 19 passengers.

The following general prerequisites and specifications apply to all Self-Sponsored Type Rating Training at OAA:
Before commencing a type-rating course, the applicant must:
We expect our applicants to have recent flight experience and solid IR/ME skills. If a candidate needs to refresh their skills, OAA offers great programs to get them up to speed. MCC courses in jet simulators, Jet Orientation Courses, airline selection preparation courses and Pilot Assessments are offered to ensure that candidates have the understanding and skills to successfully move into an airline environment.
The training requires an even number of pilots/students, i.e. complete crews. Two co-pilots or captains are accepted as a crew. If you do not have a partner we will be happy to team you up with another student.
For Type Rating Training outside of OAA's TRTO approval (JAR-FCL), each individual is responsible for approval as well as an inspector from the appropriate regulatory authority.
Aircraft training
To complete Type Rating under OAA's TRTO, aircraft training must be performed. If required, aircraft training can be performed in co-operation with OAA's partner airlines.
