Integrated ATPL Training - Australia

The latest version of our integrated course, Airline Preparation Programme First Officer (APPFO) goes beyond anything else on the market today. It involves learning about every aspect of the airline industry - not just about flying an aeroplane safely.

Operating as part of the crew of a modern airliner requires a unique set of skills and attributes that embrace all aspects of flying ability and personal qualities. It is now widely recognised that it requires considerable commitment from the trainee pilot, the flight training organisation and the employer airlines acting in partnership to prepare an individual to achieve the required standard.

To meet the need, OAA offers the APPFO course that brings together everything necessary to prepare a well motivated individual for a type rating and to become a First Officer in either a jet or a turboprop aircraft.

The central element of the programme is an Integrated training course which leads to the award of a 'frozen' Airline Transport Pilot's License issued in accordance with the Australian requirements of CASA. However, the programme incorporates many other elements which together go well beyond the minimum required for license issue.

Many training courses are designed only to meet minimum license requirements, and they are often conducted in an environment bearing little relation to a realistic airline operation. OAA's experience indicates that it is critical for any ab initio Integrated course aimed solely at the training of future airline pilots to be delivered in a manner closely aligned with airline practice and culture.

What is the APP First Officer Programme?

The APPFO course is our full-time approved 'Integrated' course of training designed to train students from zero flying experience to the qualifications and experience necessary to enable them to undertake airliner type endorsement training and operate as the co-pilot of an airliner on commercial regular public transport operations.

The course is designed for trainees who have little or no previous flying experience and must be completed at one flight school. Our Integrated course consists of:

  • 600 hours of ATPL theoretical knowledge training
  • 190 hours of aircraft flight training (150 single engine and 40 multi engine)
  • 60 hours of simulator flight training (piston and jet)

The course lasts for approximately 16 months - culminating in the issue of a Commercial Pilot's Licence (CPL) with Command Instrument Rating (CIR), ATPL Exam passes and Multi Crew Co-operation (MCC) and Jet Operations Conversion (JOC) training.

Following this course, a pilot is now qualified to commence on airliner type specific endorsement training course.

If an airliner type endorsement training course is included with the APPFO course (usually when sponsored by an airline), we brand this as an APPFO Plus course.
