Airline Pilot Training - Ab Initio

Climbing through the cloud at 6 miles per minute and bursting out 'on-top' into brilliant sunshine at 20,000 feet whilst the rest of the world works beneath you is both a privilege and a pleasure that only a pilot can truly enjoy on a regular basis.

Back down again towards the ground, flying a £120 million jet with 150 passengers on board flying accurately on instruments along a precise approach path, breaking through the base of the cloud at 100 feet and landing safely on the runway in a 30-knot gusting crosswind, is also a unique skill set routinely demanded from an airline pilot flying within Europe.

Many believe that one has to be born to love flying aircraft - and they are not entirely wrong. However, today, more than anything, professional pilots are decision makers and bearers of heavy responsibility in a high-technology environment.

They work within a complex system of electronic equipment and computers, as well as managing and prioritizing information and communication with other crew members as well as teams on the ground. Pilots are capable managers in a fascinating and highly unusual workplace, responsible every day for the safety and comfort of a large number of people.

ATPL(A) Integrated

The aim of this JAA Approved full-time course of training is to train pilots to the level of proficiency necessary to enable them to operate as a Co-Pilot on multi-pilot, multi-engine airliners in commercial air transport. The course is designed for trainees who have little or no previous flying experience and must be completed at one flight training organization. Our Integrated course consists of 216 hours of flight training and 760 hours of ATPL theoretical knowledge training and lasts approximately 16 months – culminating in the issue of a JAA CPL with Instrument Rating and Multi-Crew Co-operation credit. Following this course, a pilot is now qualified to commence on airliner type specific training.

Our students also graduate with a Foundation Degree in Air Transport Management from Bucks New University, credits for which are gained through both the ATPL Ground Training phases and set assignments spaced throughout the course.

ATPL(A) Modular

Modular courses of training are designed for individuals who do not wish to undertake a full-time course of Integrated training or who wish to ‘stagger’ their training by completing ‘Modules’ of JAA Approved training over a period of time having already gained the pre-entry requirement of a Private Pilot’s Licence.

We offer the key components of professional pilot Modular training: ATPL(A) Theoretical Knowledge training and a full-time professional course of 3 flight training modules (MECPL + IR + MCC) which are collectively know as our WAYPOINT PILOT PROGRAMME.

We also offer ATPL(A) theoretical knowledge training and multi pilot training as discrete modules
