Unique SkillsPlus Programmes

We offer 2 unique SkillsPlus Programmes designed specifically to add value to the BA Future Pilot Programme:

1. SkillsPlus Development

This programme provides the addition of exciting and inspiring personal development training over and above the core flight and ground training required for pilot licence issue.

OAA includes as integral components of the BA Future Pilot Programme:

  • A Foundation Degree in Air Transport Management from Bucks New University
  • First Officer Fundamentals training (2 x 1 week modules)

Foundation Degree

Academic accreditation of the programme provides valuable additional benefit to both BA and cadets. This degree programme, which can later be extended to a Bachelor and even a Masters degree, represents a unique and formally recognised educational qualification to add to the frozen ATPL with which you will graduate from the OAA course.

First Officer Fundamentals (FOF)

The first FOF module focuses upon enhancing flight safety awareness and the importance of open communication and a 'no blame' culture within an airline, the second module upon the key role and responsibilities of a First Officer with particular emphasis upon developing commercial and environmental awareness skills within a team environment.

2. SkillsPlus Guarantee

Our unique SkillsPlus Guarantee has been developed to give complete peace of mind during training with OAA.

It underlines our genuine and ethical commitment to the quality of both our training and our graduates. It provides for:

  • The return of up to £60,000 of your security bond in the most unlikely event that training ceases due to lack of aptitude (despite a cadet's best endeavours).
  • An all-inclusive training solution whereby OAA commits to cover the costs incurred for all additional training and/or UK CAA ground exam or flight test retakes incurred throughout the programme up to the point of licence issue.

Those applicants whose initial application is considered successful will be invited to attend for Stage 1 of the formal Selection process as detailed below.

Skills Assessment & Selection

For the BA Future Pilot Programme, assessment and selection will take place in two stages.

  • Stage 1 - at the OAA Airline Careers and Assessment Centre at Oxford Airport
  • Stage 2 - at the BA Assessment Centre at London Heathrow Airport

Only those individuals judged to have reached a sufficiently high standard in Stage 1 will proceed on to Stage 2.

The assessment process is intended to identify individuals that both OAA and BA consider to have the necessary skills, aptitude and personal characteristics to succeed in airline pilot training and then into a flying career with BA.

Stage 1 of assessment, conducted by OAA, will include:
  • Pilot aptitude, including hand/eye co-ordination, motor skills and spatial awareness
  • Academic, mathematical and technical capacity
  • Psychometric assessment
  • Team skills
  • Leadership potential
  • Communication abilities
  • Personal qualities
  • Motivation towards the career as an airline pilot

The one-off cost for undertaking OAA Skills Assessment & Selection with OAA is £199.

Candidates who are successful at Stage 1 will be notified by BA and will then proceed onto Stage 2 at no further cost other than your travel and subsistence (if necessary).

Dates for assessment and selection will be notified by OAA or BA as appropriate.
