New Ab Initio Upset Avoidance & Recovery Training in response to airline concerns
November 14th 2011

There are growing requirements from airline employers that ab initio professional pilot training courses include greater focus upon upset avoidance and recovery/loss of control situations; especially when leading to the operation of highly automated flightdecks.

In direct response to these requirements by both airlines and our own training management, OAA has developed a new 8-hour Upset Recovery module which will be included (in addition to existing training course hours) as a standard training component of all OAA Airline Pilot Career Programmes from 1 January 2012.

This innovative 8-hour training module will be delivered through a combination of aircraft and jet simulator training and delivered by specialist instructors comprising:

  • 3 Hours training in a single engine piston aerobatic certified aircraft
  • 1 Hour training in a multi engine piston aircraft
  • 4 Hours training in a multi engine jet simulator

This new Upset Avoidance and Recovery Training module will be added to the existing OAA SkillsPlus Development syllabus which already includes: a Foundation Degree in Air Transport Management and 2-weeks of First Officer Fundamentals training within all OAA ab initio Airline Pilot Cadet Programmes.
